Witnessing the Marilyn Manson and Slipknot crowd gather together in direct sunlight is like watching a coven of witches preparing for a religious ceremony.  The crowd is a beautiful mix of goth, rocker, and glam-to-the-max; it’s a sight you rarely see post-grunge era.

Of Mice and Men opened the show at 6:30 PM and their set was interesting despite the lack of crowd interest.  When you open for a band like Slipknot it’s a given that their rabid fanbase will not care about anything other than Slipknot!

Marilyn Manson took the stage at 7:30 PM and at this particular show there was no large black curtain for Manson to hide behind prior to the show starting.  Manson was laughing with his crew and guitarist Wiley just before taking the stage under a blanket of fog.

“Angel with the Scabbed Wings” was the set opener and almost immediately after Manson took the stage he went to Wiley’s side, grabbed a towel, and had a massive amount of snot pour out of his nose.  This same thing happened the night prior in Virginia.  I captured an early shot of the snot explosion which you can see in the photo below.

Performance wise, Manson was fun, loose, and enjoyed every moment he had onstage.  Twiggy and Wiley sounded great, and the crowd were on their feet for Manson’s entire set!

“Killing Strangers” was added to the set this night and during that part of the set the backdrop featured the “Marilyn Manson dollar bill”.

A partial cover of “Cat People” was performed and it featured Manson singing and Twiggy playing bass; the rest of the band did not join in.

Marilyn pulled his pants off during “Dope Show” and towards the end of the song his ass was totally “out” for the crowd to see as he walked off stage.

“Antichrist Superstar” featured the podium, and during “Beautiful People” Manson was in the crowd more than onstage.  Manson was supposed to walk through the crowd and end up on the lawn but he nixed that plan midway through the encore and stayed up front.

Slipknot were the main attraction and they brought a tight, intense, amazing metal spectacular for the Camden, New Jersey crowd.

A Large Red cutain covered the entire stage prior to Slipknot performing.

Corey Taylor is an amazing frontman and he had every fan in the venue heeding his beckon call.

Jim and Mick have their tuned down metal shred to perfection and they have amazing timing when it comes to their breakdowns.

Joey Jordison was a major part of Slipknot since day #1, but to be honest with you, at this point he’s almost forgot because the current line up of Slipknot is beyond tight in terms of how they sound and how they interact onstage together.

“The Devil In I” was dedicated to a girl named “Laney”.  The band met her earlier in the day and she is a very young person who’s battling cancer.  Corey told the crowd that song was her “fight song” and what she listens to every day after her cancer treatments.  The band were genuinely touched by her story and this was clearly the most intense moment of the evening.

The Slipknot/Marilyn Manson 2016 Summer tour is hands down the best “metal” tour package for the Summer of 2016 because both bands bring an amazing stage show, an awesome selection of “hits”, and 2 very different crowds.
