Lincoln Theatre

Washington, DC

Garbage set list:  Subhuman, Paranoid, Stupid Girl, Automatic Systematic Habit, Blood For Poppies, Trick Is To Keep Breathing, Lover’s Box, Sex is Not The Enemy, Special, Beloved Freak, Doomed, Shut Your Mouth, Blackout, Bleed Like Me, Push It, Vow, Only Happy When It Rains, Cherry Lips, ENCORE: Sometimes, Empty, #1 Crush

In 2015 Garbage ended the US leg of their “20 Years Queer” tour in Washington, DC.  Flash forward less than a year later and Garbage closed out the Summer US leg of their “Strange Little Birds” tour once again in DC!

Kristin Kontrol served as the opener and her set was fun, bouncy, and very dance oriented.  The Lincoln Theatre is a fully seated venue and almost everyone in the venue was seated during Kristin’s set which took away from some of the overall energy in the room.

Garbage took the stage promptly at 9 PM with “Subhuman” which acted more as an intro than a first song in my opinion.  “I Think I’m Paranoid” was when the energy level soared in the room and everyone left their seats to show the band love.

Shirley and the boys rocked hard and offered up a nice selection both new and old songs throughout their set.

Shirley took a moment to express her dismay in the current presidential race and most of the crowd agreed with her sentiment.

“Vow” was hands down the most powerful song in the set and following it up with “Only Happy When It Rains” was perfection.

The encore was an interesting mix of 2 new songs and 1 classic.  Speaking to random fans before and after the show you could hear the same consensus; the show would have been better if they closed with a bigger hit or an upbeat song.
