Cheetah Chrome - Ottobar

Baltimore, MD

Cheetah Chrome is the iconic lead guitarist for punk rock pioneers Dead Boys and his guitar tone is thick, solid, and full of tone while his vocals are lean and low key.

Dead Boys influenced everyone from Guns N Roses to Greenday with their edgy, articulate, and careless passion for punk rock music.  Cheetah had not performed in Baltimore for many years and this show was his triumphant return to Maryland!

Crank County Daredevils opened the show and their set was a non-stop rock n roll free-for-all that blended elements of punk, metal, and straight up shit kickin’ hard rock.  CCDD’s style of hard rock is pure energy, raw testosterone, and an unapologetic response to all things emo today.

Cheetah Chrome does not act like a rock star despite being a member of the legendary Dead Boys.  Cheetah’s merch table was impressive and featured a wide assortment of Dead Boys merch which was all priced quite low.

Cheetah Chrome’s set list was more than half Dead Boys classics and surprisingly he opened with “Sonic Reducer” which is arguably the Dead Boys biggest hit!

Cheetah’s current backing band features Jason Kottwitz on guitar and Jason’s tone/style is the perfect compliment to fill out Cheetah’s band.

Punk Rock is not dead, the bands and the fans are a tad older BUT the music and the message remains the same!

“Aint It Fun” rounded out the encore which was a totally random 4 song, on the spot call out which was not even listed on the onstage set list!

Just a friendly word to the wise, if you plan on attending a Cheetah Chrome live show, I would highly recommend bring ear plugs because Cheetah and his band play extremely loud!
